The primary challenge of any nation is the preparation of its youth for successful world citizenship. Art can enhance and develop environmental sensitivity and awareness, critical thinking, planning for objectives, decision-making and problem-solving skills and an enriching appreciation for expressive beauty in all cultures.
The Art Education program at ULM adapts a discipline-based approach to teaching art to all grade levels, and permits the development of a philosophy of art that is relevant to elementary, junior high and high school teaching. It encompasses art education theory and its relationship to planning, developing, evaluating and administering art programs in schools of all levels.
Experiences in art production are offered to teachers who wish to become certified in the field of art education. Summer workshops are available to those seeking certification in special education.
