Résumé

Richard Hayes, Assistant Professor of Art, teaches beginning and advanced level photography at ULM. His work is exhibited in regional shows and he actively participates in the Monroe community by teaching Continuing Education classes in photography and an introduction to wooden boat building.

Hayes began his career in photography in the United States Navy where he was trained as a photographer and worked first in a sixty person photo lab and for the last two year of his enlistment he worked in a fourty person photo lab. The labs were full service labs capable of doing both still, motion picture and aerial photography in both black and white and color. He holds an M.F.A. in Photography from Indiana University  where he taught as a Graduate Assistant in the art photography program under Henry Holmes Smith. Hayes’ photography can be described as a mix of practical, documentary and public relations photography as well as photography practiced as a fine art. His art photography  is in collections as diverse as the University of Exeter in the United Kingdom, the George Eastman House International Museum of Photography and Film in Rochester, New York and the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth, Texas. His  B.A. is in Ceramics from Southern Illinois University, where  he studied under the British ceramic sculptor, Nicholas Vergette.
