The Master’s in Secondary Education is comprised of 36 hours of course work that is completely online and can be attained within one full year if summer school is attended. This degree allows a student to develop more in-depth knowledge in secondary education content areas with a broader understanding of STEM/STEAM activities and preparation for becoming a Lead Teacher. The comprehensive plan also lends itself to a more inclusive understanding of current standards, trends, and innovations.

A candidate for Secondary Education must hold a valid teacher’s certificate in the
field of graduate specialization issued by the Louisiana State Department of Education
or its equivalent.

By attaining a Master’s in Secondary Education a candidate will be more marketable
for a position of Teacher Leader in the schools. Also, teachers with a Master’s of
Education Degree are eligible to mentor a student teacher or University Intern.
