Dr. Christine BerryDr. Christine Berry is the holder of the State Farm Professorship in Insurance.

Dr. Christine Berry joined the University of Louisiana at Monroe in August 2001, as Assistant Professor of Insurance and holder of the State Farm Professorship of Insurance Studies.

Prior to that, she was with E. W. Blanch and Benfield Group, an International Reinsurance Broker, most recently as Director of Education in Dallas, and prior to that as Risk Management Consultant in Minneapolis. As Director of Education, she was responsible for the courses and materials for a widely recognized insurance and reinsurance educational institute.

Before that, Berry was an Assistant Professor of Insurance at St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minnesota.

Since arriving at ULM, Berry has focused on student support and development, industry involvement and practical research. Through the support of grants from State Farm Insurance and the Louisiana Workers' Compensation Corporation, Berry has put four insurance courses online complete with taped videos of her lectures.

In the fall of 2004, Berry was appointed by Governor Blanco to the Louisiana Insurance Rating Commission. Since the fall of 2005, she has served as the President of the Northeast Louisiana Chapter of the CPCU. In the spring of 2006, she established the Risk Management and Insurance Mentor Program which is supported by the Richters Mentorship fund.

Also in 2006, Berry and two colleagues in Economics received a contract from the Louisiana Department of Insurance to act as research consultants on matters of insurance and economics. In the fall of 2006, the group submitted a study on Louisiana insurance premium tax revenues and the impact of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

As the faculty advisor to the Insurance Society, Berry has arranged and accompanied her students on industry tours and trips to conferences in New York, Philadelphia, Biloxi, Honolulu, New Orleans, and Dallas. Each year, the Insurance Society hosts a golf tournament under Berry's direction to raise funds to support these student trips.

Berry has published in scholarly journals, including Risk Management and Insurance Review and the CPCU eJournal. She has a B.S. in Finance from West Virginia University and a Ph.D. in Risk Management and Insurance from Florida State University.

She also holds the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter, the Associate in Risk Management and the Associate in Reinsurance designations.
