Conditional Admission

Conditional admissions may be granted to students who meet admissions requirements but need further English language improvement.

Students who need further language improvement can only be admitted conditionally for the fall semester and must attend an intensive intermediate summer language program on the ULM campus.

To attend the workshop and be admitted conditionally students must have scored 4-5 on the IELTS or 15-45 on the writing part of the IBT for TOEFL. Based on the scores, students will start in either June or July.

  1. Class meets five days per week for a minimum of 8 hrs./day.  Students will enroll in 5 hrs of credit per session.
  2. Classes will consist of structure and writing, reading, listening, and conversation.
  3. Students will have access to the Language Learning Center where they will work on software that addresses pronunciation needs.
  4. At the end of the summer, all the students will be tested with the Compass exam. For full admission to ULM students must have a score high enough to exempt them from further ESL classes or continue in ESLG 1003 (which carries credit equivalent to ENGL 1001), 1004, and 1006.  They will also take 6-9 hrs. of regular requirements.
  5. If the student does not have a score which indicates that they are exempt from ESL or prepared for 1003, 1004, 1006, the admission(s) will be canceled.
