As an international student in the United States, it’s important you understand the tax requirements of your visa.
You’re legally required to file a tax return with the United States Internal Revenue Service (IRS) if you worked in the U.S. or received a stipend, grant or allowance (over a certain amount.) Even if you didn’t work or receive income in the U.S., you’re still legally obligated to file a Form 8843 with the IRS.
Your tax return for 2016 Tax Year (January 1-December 31, 2016) must be filed by Tuesday, April 18, 2017.
