Course Description and Objectives:   Spanish 102 is a continuation of Spanish 101.  It builds on the basic grammatical structures of Spanish.  The goal of the course is to develop an elementary ability to speak, understand, read, and write the language.

Major Topics:  The principle structures are the present and the preterit tense, and reflexives verbs.

Mode of Delivery:   Class periods will be devoted primarily to explanation and oral practice.  Classes will also be dedicated to paired work on oral situations, which will be the subject of the oral exams.   Homework assignments will be designed to supplement work done in class, and their completion will be a crucial component for success.  All four skills (speaking, writing, listening, and understanding) will be assessed.

Textbook:    The required textbook is  ¿Cómo se dice...?  and a 3-ring binder.

Language Lab:    Spanish tapes, computer programs and tutors are available.  The hours are posted in the lab, Brown 320.

Make-Up Policy:   It is the Department's policy to make-up examinations for excused absences as defined by the University catalog.  Note that make-up exams will only be administered on March 25th and May 6th at 2:00 p.m.  At the time of your exam, you must submit your excuse.  There are no make-ups for pop quizzes and in-class oral exams.

Class Attendance:   You should make an effort to attend regularly.  If you are absent, it is your responsibility to find out what was covered in class and to be prepared upon returning to class.  Last date for dropping a course or resigning from the University is April 2nd.

Safety:   Safety issues will be discussed in class and concerns will be forwarded to the department head.
