ULM chili cook-off welcomes community to compete in tasty tradition

Organizers of the University of Louisiana at Monroe’s annual Chili Cook-Off are looking fill The Grove with a few final remaining spots left for teams looking to show off their chili-making skills. This 30th annual event is sponsored by ULM’s 31 Ambassadors and will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., on Saturday, Nov. 15, in ULM’s alumni tailgating area.

The event leads up to ULM’s final home football game of the season against the Ragin’ Cajuns of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

“The Chili Cook-off is a longstanding tradition at ULM and we are excited to be celebrating the 30th year of hosting as an association,” said Robin Underwood, director of ULM Alumni Relations.

“Our student organization the 31 Ambassadors plan, host, and execute this event for our alumni and friends. We look forward to the community’s support each year and invite you to enter your special chili recipe in the cook off or bring your family and purchase one of our $1 sample cups and help vote for our people's choice awards.”

Entry fee is $40 per team and $30 per ULM student team. Each team is limited to six members, and chili must be cooked from scratch, on site.

Each team will receive a head cook apron, beverages, and snacks. Teams are asked to bring their own equipment.

The schedule of events is as follows:

  • 9-10 a.m.: Check in and set up
  • 10:30 a.m.: Head cooks’ meeting
  • NOON: Showmanship judging
  • 1 p.m.: Chili submission and judging
  • 3 p.m.: Winners announced
