Sturdivant Wins Pfizer Global R & D Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship

The University of Louisiana at Monroe is pleased to announce that Ms. Cynthia Sturdivant has been selected as a 2001 Pfizer Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship recipient. In all, sixty-three Fellows were selected for this year's class. Among those, only three were selected from pharmacy: Sturdivant from ULM, Matthew Banks from Ohio Northern University, and Christopher Johnston from Purdue. Other universities with undergraduates receiving 2001 Pfizer fellowships include Duke University, Johns Hopkins University, Colgate University, Emory University, and UCLA.

This award will permit Sturdivant to devote full-time effort to her research project for an eight- to ten-week period this summer. In addition, Sturdivant and her research mentor, Dr. Paul Sylvester, Professor in the ULM College of Pharmacy, will join other members of the class and their mentors at Pfizerís PGRD, Groton Laboratories, in Groton, Connecticut, in October 2001 during which Sturdivant will participate in a poster presentation of her research.
