New VP Of Student Affairs At ULM Begins Duties

Dr. Wayne Brumfield officially starts his first day on the job at the University of Louisiana at Monroe as the Vice President for Student Affairs on July 15th, Monday. The Louisiana Board of Supervisors approved him in June for the position.

Brumfield's responsibilities at ULM will include reorganizing enrollment services and enrollment management and revising student life initiatives on campus. Brumfield has over 12 years experience in admissions, records, registration, recruitment, and freshman orientation. His most recent position, since 1999, has been as Registrar and Director of Admissions at Louisiana State University at Eunice. Previously he held the position of Director of Admissions and Recruitment at Southern University at Baton Rouge.

Dr. Brumfield's degrees include a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Research from Louisiana State University at Baton Rouge, an M.A. in History from Southeastern Louisiana University at Hammond, and a B.A. in History from the University of Southwestern Louisiana at Lafayette.

"We are very pleased to have an individual of Dr. Brumfield's education and experience. His depth of knowledge on recruitment will go a long way in helping our University. We look forward to working with Wayne as we build a new Student Affairs team, " said ULM President, Dr. James Cofer.

This is the first permanent appointment made by ULM's President, Dr. Cofer. This appointment reinforces Dr. Cofer's commitment to the students, representing his priorities as outlined in his inaugural speech.

"I am looking forward to working with Dr. Brumfield. ULM is going through an exciting time of change, and I feel that Dr. Brumfield adds a piece to the puzzle. He will be a great asset to the students and to the future of this university," said Charlie Cheatham, ULM SGA President.

Dr. Wayne Brumfield looks forward to his new position at ULM and said, "I am really excited about working with the community, faculty, staff, and students. There is a great deal of potential here and the key to making it work is revitalization. I believe if everyone gets the mind set to participate in the revitalization, then our University will blossom. Once this happens our community, faculty, staff, and students will all benefit."

Dr. Brumfield will be available for interviews Monday, July 15. If you would like to meet with him, please call the Office of Public Affairs at 342-5444.
