ULM Alumnus Mayor Of Sulphur

Ron LeLeux, a University of Louisiana at Monroe Graduate, was recently sworn in as Mayor of Sulfur, LA. LeLeux got his BA in 1977 in Criminal Justice, and his MA in 1984 in Marriage and Family Therapy; both from ULM. He was the first-ever graduate from ULM's Marriage and Family Therapy program.

LeLeux is from Sulphur, but his history with ULM dates back to 1973 when he began taking classes at ULM. LeLeux met his wife, the former Renee Blackmon, while attending ULM in the late seventies. She was editor of the school newspaper, the Pow Wow, and he was the SGA President.

Leluex worked at ULM from 1984-90. He was the Academic Advisor for the football team. He left in 1990 for a job at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville and in 1992 went back to Sulphur for a job at McNeese State University.

LeLeux says he ran for the office of Mayor because, "Sulpher is very rich in potential and I thought the city needed to be creative."

LeLeux and his wife have one 15 year-old daughter.
