ULM Professor Elected to Board of Directors of Louisiana Historical Association

Dr. Gordon Harvey, Professor and Graduate Coordinator in the Department of History and Government at the University of Louisiana at Monroe was recently elected to the Board of Directors of The Louisiana Historical Association.

Dr. Terry Jones, ULM History Professor, nominated Harvey for the position.

"I've only been here in Louisiana for a short time but have tried to take part in the organization as much as possible, including offering commentary on papers presented at the organization's annual meetings, and recruiting History students to present papers at
Phi Alpha Theta (the History Honor Society) sessions held in conjunction with the LHA annual conferences," said Harvey

"It is quite an honor to be elected by my peers to such a high position in the organization and I look forward to serving the Association," said Harvey.

The Board of Directors is elected by the members of the association at its annual meeting in the spring. Regular meetings are held twice each year. The board of Directors is the governing body for the LHA. The LHA has close to 1000 members and publishes the journal, "Louisiana History".

Harvey will hold his position with the LHA until 2006. ULM Professors Scott Legan and Terry Jones are also active in the organization.
