ULM Mortar Board Chapter Receives National Silver Torch Award

ULM's 2004-2005 Mortar Board Chapter recently received the Silver Torch Award from the Mortar Board National College Senior Honor Society. The award was presented to the 2005 chapter delegate in Columbus, Ohio, at the annual conference, held July 22-24.

Mortar Board, Inc. is a national honor society founded in 1918 which recognizes college seniors for distinguished ability and achievement in scholarship, leadership and service. Only 40 Mortar Board chapters out of 213 nationwide were selected to receive this honor. The award recognizes chapters that successfully meet all the chapter minimum standards for the year, turn in all report forms and clear their account by June 1.

"We wanted to commend the leadership and dedication that the 2004-2005 Mortar Board Chapter demonstrated last year," said Sommer Sterud, communications coordinator of the Mortar Board National Office. "The chapter members achieved great success in their quest to fulfill the Mortar Board ideals of scholarship, leadership and service."
