Fandal presents keynote address in Lafayette

Professor Carlos Fandal, foreign languages, presented the keynote address at Louisiana Foreign Language Teachers Convention in Lafayette March 30. His talk was entitled, "LFLTA, Then, Now, and Tomorrow."

Fandal first served as president of LFLTA in 1969 and was elected to a second term in 1971. In his address to the membership, Fandal outlined the challenges and opportunities faced by LFLTA and foreign language instruction in the late 1960s and early 70s.

While society may have undergone significant change since he was president, the challenges and opportunities have remained fairly constant, Fandal noted.

Fandal also stated that the future of foreign languages will, in large measure, depend upon the guidance provided to the state by LFLTA since it is the only state-wide organization capable of representing all languages at all levels of instruction.
