ULM staff writer earns recognition at state communications meeting

The Louisiana Press Women recently announced winners in its annual 2010 LPW Communications Contest, which included accolades for University of Louisiana at Monroe Staff Writer Keli Jacobi.

Jacobi won two first place awards and a second place award at the organization’s annual meeting in Lecompte.

She earned a first place award for her contributions to the Spring 2009 ULM Magazine and a first place award for a feature story on the ULM Louisiana Lyric Opera picked up in Delta Style Magazine.

Her second place award stemmed from placement of a news story concerning Dr. Paul Sylvester’s breast cancer research at ULM.

Jacobi is serving as vice president and 2010 communication contest chair of LPW, a chapter of the National Federation of Press Women.

All first place winners at the state level will be forwarded to NFPW for judging at the national level. Winners at the national level will be recognized in August at the NFPW Annual Communications Conference in Chicago.

The nationwide organization consists of professionals who pursue careers across the communications spectrum, including print and electronic journalism, public relations, advertising, new media, marketing, photography and more.

Members are committed to the highest ethical standards in communications and to protecting First Amendment rights, as well as networking with each other.
