ULM alum earns scholarship to study in Spain

University of Louisiana at Monroe Alum Bonnie Tindall Baxter has received the 2010 Louisiana Foreign Language Teacher's Association Spanish Embassy Scholarship.

This honor recognizes the successes of Louisiana Spanish teachers and covers the costs of room and board along with a month of education at the University of Salamanca in Spain.

She graduated in English and Spanish in 2002 and completed a M.A.T and plus thirty from ULM in 2004.

Baxter offers Spanish dual enrollment classes for ULM.

Baxter is a teacher and the head of the language department at West Ouachita High School in West Monroe and has recently started an active Spanish Club

Her student members have the opportunity to participate in Foreign Film Night, Spanish cooking classes, caroling in Spanish at nursing homes and local festivals.

Baxter was also selected as 2009's West Ouachita High School Teacher of the Year by her coworkers and is a member of the Festival of World Languages Planning Committee.
