Marriage and Family Therapy Workshops to occur at ULM Dec. 6-7

David Epston, co-founder with Michael White of narrative therapy, will present two workshops at ULM Dec. 6-7.

Session One, titled "A New Genre of Working with Problems of Young People and Their Families and Communities" is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 6 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at the ULM Student Union Building's second floor.

Session Two, titled "'Living' a Narrative Therapy Interview" is scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 7 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at the same location.

Epston is the co-director of the Family Therapy Centre in Auckland, New Zealand, and a visiting professor in the School of Human Sciences and Community Studies at the UNITEC Institute of Technology in Auckland.

In 2007, the American Family Therapy Academy presented Epston with the "Distinguished Contribution to Family Therapy Theory and Practice" award. His teaching style is reputed to be engaging, creative and always surprising.

He has published widely, and is known for "White and Epston, Narrative Means to Therapeutic Ends," which has been translated into 12 languages. He is also the co-author of "Biting the Hand That Starves You: Inspiring Resistance to Anorexia/Bulimia," "Playful Approaches to Serious Problems" and many other publications.

Light refreshments are served in the morning and afternoon. There will be an hour break for lunch.

There is a discount for attendees registered before Nov. 15. A registration form is available online at www.ulm.edu/mft.

Attendees may also mail in a registration form or make payment at the registration table prior to each session. Early registration is advised to secure seating.
