ULM Child Development Center raises $2,158 for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital

The University of Louisiana at Monroe Child Development Center is proud to announce another successful community service project in the form of its recent Mardi Gras Trike-a-thon Parade – the youngest Warhawks raised funds for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital totaling $2,158.

Emily Williamson, the center director, stated that this was the second year that the CDC hosted the event for St. Jude's.

"During the week leading up to the trike-a-thon, teachers taught lessons on bicycle safety as they prepared their students for the event.

"We would like to extend special thanks to our Child Development Center families, ULM faculty that attended the event and everyone that financially supported this project."

Stacy Key, the lead preschool three-year-old teacher, served as coordinator for the event, and Ace the Warhawk led the parade as Grand Marshall.

Each semester the ULM Child Development Center sponsors a community service project that its children and families participate in to learn about volunteerism and helping the community.

In the summer of 2011, the center collected toiletries for the homeless and Staci Raborn's preschool four-year-old class assembled them into 172 kits.

The center then presented the kits to the Northeast Louisiana Chapter of Volunteers of America to distribute to homeless individuals in the area.

In the fall of 2012, the children assembled 15 Christmas Boxes for the Samaritan's Purse organization to distribute in other countries.
