ULM Rad Tech students and faculty excel at seminar

The University of Louisiana at Monroe Department of Radiologic Technology representatives attended the Louisiana Society of Radiologic Technologists 2012 Mid-Winter Seminar, March 9-10, at the Clarion Hotel in Shreveport.

Approximately 250 radiologic technologists and student technologists attended the two-day seminar, which consisted of business meetings, continuing education meetings and student competitions.

ULM's presence was enhanced by the participation of its 54 professional students.

Students attended general education lectures and ARRT Registry Review lectures, as well as the LSRT Student Advisory Council meeting and Student Bee competitions.

Radiologic technology junior Rebecca Gibson of Oak Ridge was elected chair of the LSRT Student Advisory Council, and junior Heather Pavlisin of Naples, Fla., was elected as the North Region representative.

Mindi Giroir, a senior radiologic technology student from Monroe, placed third in the Student Bee competition.

Andy Allen, an assistant professor of radiologic technology, currently serves as a board member of the LSRT and as vice chair of the Louisiana Educators in Radiologic Sciences Council. Allen also presented a lecture titled "Review of Patient Care."

Jaclyn Peters, an assistant professor of radiologic technology, currently serves as recording secretary of the LSRT. Peters presented a lecture titled "Methods for Improving the Interdepartmental Communication for Radiologic Technologists and Student Technologists."

Brett Bennett, ULM Radiologic Technology department head, currently serves as LSRT president. Bennett presented a lecture titled "Equipment Maintenance and Operation."

"The continued support of the ULM Radiologic Technology program has a significant impact on the LSRT, as well as the radiologic technology profession as a whole," said Allen.

"The dedication of the faculty to the advancement of the profession by participation in the society also impacts how our students participate, not only during school, but also after they graduate and become imaging professionals."
