ULM Beta Gamma Sigma chapter receives international recognition

Beta Gamma Sigma, an international honor society, recognized the University of Louisiana at Monroe chapter as a Premier Chapter in early October. Beta Gamma Sigma serves business programs accredited by AACSB International—The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.

National President of Beta Gamma Sigma William Hunter praised ULM's academic excellence.

“This is a significant achievement and indicates a high value is placed on scholarship recognition at the University of Louisiana at Monroe,” said Hunter.

Beta Gamma Sigma is the highest recognition a business student can receive in a business program accredited by AACSB-International.

Premier chapters indicate a membership acceptance rate of at least 85 percent.

Junior and senior students who wish to join Beta Gamma Sigma must maintain a grade point average in the upper 10 percent of their class, and masters level students must maintain a GPA in the upper 20 percent of their class.

Dr. Ron Berry, dean of the College of Business, said, “Recognition from Beta Gamma Sigma as a premier chapter is a testament to the outstanding work of our faculty and students.  Only universities that meet the highest standards of excellence and earn accreditation from AACSB-International are allowed to have Beta Gamma Sigma chapters.  To be part of such an elite group is one thing, but to be additionally recognized as one of the best of the best, is truly outstanding.”

As a premier chapter, ULM qualifies to participate in the Beta Gamma Sigma Matching Scholarship program that will provide a $1,000 scholarship to a Beta Gamma Sigma member.

Additionally, ULM will be allowed to compete for the 2013 Outstanding Chapter award, which could lead to additional scholarships for ULM students.
