Dr. Nick J. BrunoA message to ULM faculty and staff from ULM President Nick J. Bruno

Dear Colleagues,

As I promised, I am providing you with this update regarding our response to the mid-year budget reduction.

1. Savings from unfilled and vacant positions

$568,902*

2. Operating services-utilities

50,000

3. Acquisitions

150,000

Total Reduction

$768,902

We are at risk that the funds needed to restore these positions may not be available in the next budget year.  On a positive note, however, applications for the 2014 class are up and if this trend continues, this could provide additional revenues.

As the legislative session approaches in the spring, we will continue to bring attention to the funding allocation inequity I shared with you in August.

Our legislative delegation as well as Board of Regent and Board of Supervisor’s staff and finance committee chairs have been provided the data showing this inequity.  I also plan to address this matter with the new system president as soon as possible when she assumes those responsibilities in January.

I plan to address you during University week and provide an update as well as outline some plans to move forward for the remainder of this fiscal year as well as fiscal '14.  Your input will be sought and welcome as we proceed in our planning process.

Thanks so much for your commitment and I wish you and your family a happy holiday season.

Nick J. Bruno, Ph.D.
President
