If you are prior service, or currently serving in the Reserve or National Guard, you do not have to take any of the Basic Course classes or attend the Leader's Training Course. Once you have attained 30 credit hours you are eligible to contract and receive financial assistance from the ROTC program.
However, we encourage you to enroll in the basic courses if you have less than 30 credit hours, so you can get to know your fellow cadets and the cadre that will be assisting you through the program. Additionally, you have valuable military experience that you can impart to the younger cadets.
We can also assist you in joining the Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP). This will allow you to be a member of your Reserve/Guard unit and the ROTC battalion at the same time.
Simultaneous Membership Program
Once you are in the SMP you will be promoted to E-5 or retain your rank if higher and immediately work in an officer’s position. You will receive the ROTC stipend, retain all current education benefits, and are eligible to apply for the Guaranteed Reserve Forces Duty Scholarship. If you receive the GRFD Scholarship you will receive extra financial benefits and will remain in the National Guard or Army Reserve upon completion of ROTC.
