Dear ULM Faculty:

The Faculty Stakeholder Meeting is scheduled for May 2nd 2013 from 11:00am to noon in room 170 of the Student Center.  All faculty members at ULM are invited to attend this meeting to receive an update of the Strategic Planning Process.

Last week, the 2013 ULM Strategic Planning Committee concluded a one and one-half day retreat to accomplish the goal of defining what ULM is as an organization and how the current economic environment has impacted our University.  The Committee conducted SWOT analysis, and then updated the current ULM mission, vision and guiding principles statement, and drafted strategy statement and strategic focus areas.  The results from this first meeting will create a first draft of important elements of the strategic plan that will guide ULM over the next five-year period 2013 to 2018.

The final strategic plan will benefit from the input of others interested in ULM’s success and must have a wide approval among ULM’s influential stakeholders if it has any hope of succeeding.  For these reasons, the strategic planning website will be opened up for comments and committee members will host a series of stakeholder meetings between April 29th and May 10th , 2013 so that input from faculty, staff, alumni, students and the community can be obtained and the building of consensus can begin.

I encourage everyone who is a faculty member at ULM to attend their stakeholder meeting.  However, if you are not able to attend, please try to attend a meeting provided for the other stakeholders (alumni, staff, students, community, etc) that will be listed on the Strategic Planning website:

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Dear Colleagues:

Stakeholder meetings have been scheduled over the next two weeks so that interested individuals from all sectors of the ULM community have an opportunity to have input on the plan’s creation.  A list of these meetings can be found at the calendar page on the ULM strategic planning website: http://www.ulm.edu/strategicplanning/calendar.html.

The Strategic Planning Committee met last week to review background data, consider important trends affecting higher education, critically analyze this information, and create a first draft of a university strategic plan.  The objective of this plan is to create a roadmap that will be used in decision making and will lead ULM to success no matter the conditions we face.

This plan can benefit from your input, and I hope you will take the time to attend one of these one-hour meetings.  They are organized by groups but feel free to attend any that your schedule allows.  The facilitator of the meeting will review some information to provide a context for you to evaluate the plan, will show you the current draft, and will ask for your comments.  One of the committee members will help record those comments for later consideration.

I hope you will take the time to participate in this important decision-making process.

Thank you.

Again, thanks for your participation in this valuable process.

Dear Colleagues,

Just a reminder about today's Staff Strategic Planning Stakeholder meeting at 2 PM in the Kitty DeGree Hall (Nursing) Auditorium.

As Staff Senate president, I encourage you to participate in this meeting to discuss ULM's Strategic Plan. This meeting is expected to take about one hour.

Ladies and Gentlemen:

You are invited to attend a meeting being held at the Anna Gray Noe Alumni Center on the University of Louisiana at Monroe campus on Monday, May 6 at 4:PM.  We especially encourage leaders in education to attend as well as disseminate the information about the meeting to your colleagues. The purpose of this session is to provide an opportunity for you to learn about the university's draft strategic plan and have input to its development.  If you are unable to attend that session, please feel free to go to any other one that is being offered.  A full schedule of meetings is available in the calendar section of the strategic planning website (http://www.ulm.edu/strategicplanning).

The Strategic Planning Committee has spent several weeks reviewing background data and other information about ULM, the environment affecting it, and the trends that seem to be important in determining the future of higher education.  If you wish to review the same information, please see the ULM Planning Factbook links on the strategic planning website in the 2013 documents section.

The May 4th meeting will last approximately one hour and will consist of a short presentation summarizing the context for the plan followed by time for you to review the plan and provide input on its current form.  Your ideas will be summarized by a committee member in attendance and considered later by the full committee as it seeks to finalize the plan.

This strategic plan may be the most important document the university has ever produced, so I encourage your participation in its development.  It will be the guide for the University’s decision-making process over the next five years, a period of time that will likely be stressful but will influence ULM's success for the foreseeable future.

I look forward to seeing all of you who can attend on May 6th.
