exhibiting her art, experiences with others
Senior Megan Rushing is an art major from Archibald.
Archibald, Louisiana is a community of extremely supportive and kind people. There is not much to do there, which keeps kids involved in extracurricular school activities. These activities created close friendships and promoted our desire to compete socially and academically.
I am a member of Phi Kappa Phi, a national honors society, and also Kappa Pi, a co-ed fraternity for art students. The Kappa Pi fraternity allows us more chances to exhibit our artwork and to integrate art into school activities around campus. I am currently employed by the Brandy House, a local restaurant. I love my job. I get to meet extraordinary people.
I am studying graphic design at the university as my main concentration, but I am also taking as many printmaking classes as possible. I hope that eventually, I will be able to own my own graphic design and print firm.
My favorite spot on campus is Bry Hall. There is so much art being created there. Bry houses the ceramic room, the printmaking room, the painting room, the photography room the drawing room and the campus art gallery. I feel like a giddy child when I am there. There is an enormous energy present when so much creation is taking place around you; it's like being participating in performance art.
So many ULM professors have made such a large impact on my growth as an individual and as an artist. I certainly will have to make a list: Camille Jungman, Brian Fassett, Jason Clark, Bob Ward, Richard Eugene Hayes, and Cliff Tresner are among the few. In my experience, the professors seem to really care about our education; they are approachable and they make us feel as though they want us to succeed. I am grateful to be a part of this university.
My favorite memory at ULM is sitting on the stoop in front of Bry Hall with my peers and discussing everything underneath the sun. If I remember nothing else from my college experience, I know I will remember this.
When I graduate, I will say that I am proud to be a graduate of ULM. I have grown with ULM. I used the bowling alleys and pool tables at the old SUB, and now I visit the new Starbucks and enjoy all the changes that have occurred in between. The growth of this campus is symbiotic with the growth of myself. I have always felt that this was a great university, and now I feel that we are making others see that too.
