Hello and thank you for your interest in the counseling program at the University of Louisiana at Monroe. Take a moment to get to know more about us to see if we would be the right fit for your educational needs. The counseling program at ulm is accredited by Krep and offers a master's of science and counseling that is 60 credit hours. While our coursework is 100% online, we also provide two in-person residencies where students can meet with each other and the counseling faculty to learn more about advanced topics in counseling and practice their clinical skills. We operate on a fall cohort model where students complete their coursework in a sequenced order. The class sizes are small. Content courses are capped at 15 and practicum internships are capped at six. Our tuition cost is cost-effective at $550 a credit hour for both in and out of state students. We offer two counseling tracks to choose that are both KREP accredited. The clinical mental health counseling track prepares students to work primarily as professional counselors who will assess, diagnose, and treat mental and emotional disorders using individual, group, and marriage and family approaches. Graduates of this track go on to become clinicians in the community and work in in settings that range from private practice to hospitals to higher education. The school counseling track prepares students to work primarily as professional school counselors. Graduates of this track go on to become school counselors in the K through2 schools that work both in private and public schools. The counseling faculty offer a number of dynamic electives within the program so students can learn more about their professional interests. We also believe in interdisciplinary learning and are allied with psychology, marriage and family therapy, gerontology, and education programs to offer students a variety of other electives from other professions to further enrich their education. Students at ULM choose their practicum and internship sites close to where they live. Students typically complete their practicum and internships over three semesters in a clinical or school setting where they are supervised on site by their site supervisor and by their faculty supervisor over Zoom. For students who work full-time, we also offer the option to take internship as as a part-time status that extends over four semesters. Thank you for your interest in the counseling program at ulm.
