June 1917 British Major-General Alfred W. F. Knox's June 30th letter reporting Kerenski's reception by the Russian Army |
|||||
"When Kerenski visited the 2nd Division of the Guard yesterday the men formed into two groups, 6,000 surrounding him, cheering, while 4,000 held another ‘meeting’ some hundreds of yards distant. Kerenski said he wanted to speak to all of the men, and asked the hostile group to come over. They refused, called him a ‘bourgeois’ and said they only wanted fight the bourgeoisie. They refused a hearing to an office who tried to persuade them. They yelled: 'Down with war!' 'Down with everything!'"(638).
