ULM reports spring 2002 enrollment

Officials at the University of Louisiana at Monroe said today that enrollment for Spring 2002 is down from last year, but the decline is less than projected.

Official figures released today by ULM show total Spring enrollment at 8,248, down 5.1 percent from the Spring 2001 enrollment.

ULM Dean of Enrollment Management, Dr. Mahmoud Saffari, says the decline in enrollment is actually better than expected. "ULM was projected to experience a 10.4 percent decline this Spring, but we only saw a 5.1 percent decline and that is something to be proud of," said Dean Saffari.

"The university has been anticipating a declining enrollment ever since the switch to selective admissions which began Fall 2001. We are excited by the fact that our numbers were higher than were projected."
