ULM Anticipates Big Day Saturday

The University of Louisiana at Monroe will have a big day this Saturday, Sept. 25. In addition to it being the first home football game against Arkansas State, it is also the day of "Bringing Down the House," the implosion of Olin Hall.

Fans and guests on campus this Saturday can also enjoy "Military Day", skydiving, shrimp boil and fireworks.

The schedule for the day follows:

9 a.m. All Roads into Campus will be closed and no pedestrian traffic will be allowed in preparation for the Olin Implosion

10 a.m. Implosion of 11-story Olin Hall

10:30 a.m. (Approximate time) All roads into campus re-opened

11 a.m. Tailgating begins in the Grove

2:30 p.m. Ouachita Parish Alumni Shrimp Boil

5 p.m. "Kids Zone" opens in South end of Malone Stadium

6:15 p.m. Pre-game skydiving exhibition. Skydivers will land on the field.

6:30 p.m. Kick-off ULM plays Sun Belt Conference game against Arkansas State

Halftime-"Salute to our Armed Forces" halftime show by the ULM Band

Post-Game- Patriotic Fireworks Show

10 a.m. Olin Implosion- The residence hall, a ULM landmark for decades, will be demolished at 10 a.m. to make room for new campus housing along Bayou DeSiard. A gala champagne brunch will be held on the 7th floor of the ULM library. At this event, Ann Raines, former Monroe City Council Member, and Eric Hogan, President of the Monroe Chamber of Commerce, will implode Olin. They won the privilege to implode the building with a bid of $8,0000 at a live auction at Envision ULM 2004.

Bayou DeSaird will be closed and Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Enforcement Agents will patrol the area.

11:00 Tailgate Party- Campus Activities Board sponsors a tailgate party in "The Grove"

2-5 p.m. Extreme Air- simulated parachuting with jet engine in front of the activity center

2:30- 5:30 p.m. Ouachita Parish Alumni Shrimp Boil. The Ouachita Parish Chapter of the ULM Alumni Association will host its annual Alumni Shrimp Boil on campus Saturday. Alumni, friends, and family are invited to join the ULM Alumni Association and the Ouachita Parish Alumni Chapter at our Annual Shrimp Boil. They will be serving shrimp, corn, potatoes, and beverages. Tickets are on sale now at the ULM Alumni Center. Ticket price is $15. Call 342-5420 for more information.

5 p.m. "Kids Zone" opens in South end of Malone Stadium. Parents are urged to bring their children to the game. Ram Rent-All and Fiesta Entertainment sponsor it with games and other activities for children. It will be an interactive area for children ages 3 and up (6 and under must be accompanied by an adult).

6:30 p.m. Kick-off ULM plays Sun Belt Conference game against Arkansas State. As part of the Military Day observance, free admission to the game is offered for all military personnel and one guest with military ID. Events associated with Military Day include the pre-game skydiving exhibition, the "Salute to our Armed Forces" halftime show by the ULM Band, military equipment on display including a helicopter, HUMMV and others, and the opportunity to meet and thank members of the National Guard.

Miss ULM will also be at the game to meet fans. ULM students who attend the game will have a chance to win numerous prizes including free tuition, free campus housing, free books, free meals and a personal parking spot in the "ULM Student Sweepstakes. A drawing will be held for the prizes at each of the four Indian home games.
