Spirit Days Promote That Maroon and Gold

Technically, you'll find tremendous pride and enthusiasm for ULM every day, but the weekly Spirit Day gives you all the excuse you need to wear that maroon and gold like a banner.

Spirit Day, held on the Week of Welcome Friday (August 26) and every Friday thereafter allows students, faculty, staff and alumni to proudly display maroon and gold apparel in support of their university. The only date exception will be Thursday, September 1, which is the first football game of the season and held at ULM.

The tradition began last year as a way to build and celebrate the culture of support for ULM.

"We got such a great response," Amy Weems, Interim Assistant Dean of Student Life and Leadership, said. "Everyone trained themselves to wear maroon and gold on Friday."

And such support reaps a tangible reward. Each week, 500 prizes, ranging from cookies to ULM items like key chains and megaphones, will be given out to those dressed in maroon and gold. To win, simply go by the tent that will be in the Quad from 9 a.m. until noon to pick up a prize until all are given out.
