ULM 2005 PREP Staff Announced

The University of Louisiana at Monroe announced the selection of seventeen students to serve on the 2005 Preview Registration Environment Program (PREP) Staff. PREP Staff is an elite group of student leaders that have excelled in the areas of leadership, academic achievement and enthusiasm for the University of Louisiana at Monroe. The mission of PREP is to introduce academic, social, and cultural aspects of ULM and to promote a sense of dedication and pride among incoming students.

Students on the PREP Staff must go through an application and interview process prior to their selection. Students selected for PREP Staff are required to take an upper level counseling class prior to assuming their duties. PREP Staff members receive both a cash stipend and room and board for the summer term.

The PREP Staff will travel to Clemson University this spring to attend the Southern Regional Orientation Workshop and will participate in a song and skit competition with 65 other universities. During the summer term, these students will work with incoming freshmen at five two-day PREP sessions. The ULM Office of Recruitment and Admissions will also offer a two-day Parent Orientation Program (POP) in conjunction with each of the PREP sessions.

The PREP Staff plays an important role in helping new students adjust to college life. They help give new students a clear impression that they are about to enter a different phase in academic, social, and cultural aspects of their lives. The PREP Staff helps acquaint new students with the requirements and expectations of the university and introduce students to student services and campus resources. Staffers also guide students through academic planning and registration and help provide an opportunity for students to interact with faculty, staff, and other students that can help new students as they transition into college life. The PREP Staff encourages peer interaction and networking among students, promote a strong connection to the history, traditions, and spirit of the university and promote the importance of the first-year experience. Staff members also provide a seamless learning environment between academics and student life.
