ULM's KEDM Sweeps Competition at the Louisiana Associated Press Broadcasters Radio Contest

The winners of the 2004 Louisiana Associated Press Broadcasters Association Radio Contest were recognized recently at the Audubon Zoo in New Orleans. KEDM, 90.3 FM, the public radio station housed at ULM, brought home a host of honors and swept most categories.

In the category of best general news, first place was awarded to KEDM-FM for "Video Game Characters" by Kate Archer, second place, KEDM-FM for "Prairie Dog Exhibit" by Sunny Meriwether and third place to "Hedgepeth Mounds" by Kate Archer.

In the category of best feature, first place was awarded to KEDM-FM for "Kasmir" by Kate Archer, second place to KEDM-FM for "Sushi" by Sunny Meriwether and third place was awarded to KEDM-FM for "Daily Harvest" also by Sunny Meriwether.

In the category of best sports story, first place was awarded to KEDM-FM for "ULM Joins Sunbelt" by Sunny Meriwether.

In the best public affairs category, first place was awarded to KEDM-FM for "Deacons of Defense" by Kate Archer and second place to KEDM-FM for "Immunization Blitz" by Sunny Meriwether.

In the category of best sound, first place was awarded to KEDM-FM for "Olin Implosion" by Sunny Meriwether, second place to "Turkey-Calling Contest" by Kate Archer and also third place was awarded to Sunny Meriwether of KEDM-FM for "Tape Class."

For best website, the KEDM-FM Monroe radio staff won first place.

In the breaking weather category first place was given to KEDM-FM for "Hurricane Ivan" by Sunny Meriwether and Scott Blair.

In the best newscast category Sunny Meriwether of KEDM-FM received first place. Sunny Meriwether also received first place in the story of the year category for "September Primary Preview."

In the final category, reporter of the year, first place was awarded to Kate Archer of KEDM-FM.
