New Appointments in the College of Health Sciences

The College of Health Sciences at ULM announces five new appointments. Dr. Benny Blaylock is the new Associate Dean of Operations, Technology and Assessment for the School of Pharmacy; Dr. Karen Briski is the new Department Head of Basic Pharmaceutical Sciences for the School of Pharmacy; Dr. Judy Fellows is now the Interim Department Head for Communicative Disorders; Dr. Paxton Oliver has been appointed Associate Dean of Operations, Technology and Assessment in the College of Health Sciences; and Susan Rogers has been appointed Business Manager for the College of Health Sciences.

Dr. Blaylock began his carreer at ULM in 1992 as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology. He became an Assistant Professor of Toxicology in 1993 and in 1995 became an Associate Professor. He was the Director of Research and Graduate Studies for the School of Pharmacy from 1995-2000 and was named Outstanding Professor for the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in 1997. Before this appointment, Blaylock was Head of the Department of Toxicology, a position he held since 2000. He has been a professor of Toxicology since 2000 and has been a Waste Management Endowed Professor of Toxicology since 2001. Blaylock received his Ph.D. from the University of Arkansas for Medical Science. He conducted his postdoctoral fellowship at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences at Research Triangle Park in North Carolina.

Dr. Karen Briski has been with ULM since 1999. She was previously Professor of Pharmacology and Neuroanatomy in the Department of Basic Pharmaceutical Sciences and Director of Graduate Studies and Research for the School of Pharmacy. She received her B.S. in Biology from Albright College in Pennsylvania and her M.S. and Ph. D. in Anatomy from The University of Michigan in Michigan.

Dr. Judy Fellows has been a part of the ULM faculty for 12 years. She was previously the Professor and Graduate Coordinator for Communicative Disorders and Co-Director of the Teaching and Learning Resource Center. She received her B.A. in Speech-Language Pathology from South Dakota State University; her M.A. in Speech-Language Pathology from Oklahoma State University; and her Ph.D. in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Memphis.

Dr. Paxton Oliver has been a part of the Department of Communicative Disorders at ULM for 25 years. He previously served as the Director of the CODI program from 1980-1986 and as a professor and Department Head of CODI from 2000-present. He was selected as Outstanding College Professor in 1997 and served on the Board of Directors for the Louisiana Speech-Language Hearing Association from 2002-2004. Oliver received his B.A. from NLU., his M.A. from LTU and his Ph.D. from the University of Southern Mississippi.

Susan Rogers began her career at ULM in 1981 as a secretary in the Financial Aid Office. She became Administrative Secretary in the Office of Human Resources in 2003. In December of 2003, she received her B.B.A. in Computer Information Systems, with a concentration in Systems Support from ULM.
