ULM Alum Named as Head Women's Basketball Coach at Texas Tech

University of Louisiana at Monroe alum Kristy Curry recently became head women's basketball coach at Texas Tech. Prior to her new position, Curry served the last seven years as the head coach at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind.

Curry is a native of Olla, La. and a graduate from LaSalle High School. She earned her bachelor's of science degree in health and physical education at then-Northeast Louisiana University in 1998.

In her seven years at Purdue University, Curry became one of the most successful coaches in that university's history. Her career record there consisted of 179-51 (.778) and was 86-26 (.768) in Big Ten Conference games.

Her teams won two Big Ten regular-season and three Big Ten Tournament championships. Curry also directed her teams to seven NCAA Tournament appearances, including the Final Four and championship game in 2001.

Not only has Curry coached successful teams athletically, every student who finished a playing career at Purdue under her leadership graduated. Curry is also active in community service.
