Governor’s office appoints professor to commission

On Nov. 9, the Office of the Governor appointed Phyllis Sanders, a ULM assistant professor of curriculum and instruction, to serve on Louisiana’s Blue Ribbon Commission for Educational Excellence.

The Blue Ribbon Commission focuses its attention each year to a specific teaching and learning need in the state and recommends a related set of actions to the Board of Regents and the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education.

“This appointment is an honor and I look forward to working with members of the Blue Ribbon Commission as we strive for educational excellence in Louisiana schools,” Sanders said.

The 2006-07 mission is “to recommend strategies to address the challenges faced by Louisiana schools to provide quality special education and reading teachers and services for students.”

The commission will also finalize the formula for the Teacher Preparation Accountability System revised during 2005-06.
