SBDC to offer two home-based business workshops; beginning Sept. 18

The University of Louisiana at Monroe Small Business Development Center will provide two home-based business workshops, one on Tuesday, Sept. 18, and the other on Thursday, Sept. 20.

The "Home-Based Business Tax Issues" workshop will occur on Sept. 18 from 6 8 p.m. in the ULM Administration Building, Room 2-105, with a participation fee of $10.

The Internet and E-commerce is sparking the growth of home-based businesses. This workshop will cover basic federal tax responsibilities of home-based business owners, deductions for business use of your home, business use of your vehicle when you work from home, business use of your home computer and special record keeping issues. The workshop will be presented by a member of the Louisiana Society of Enrolled Agents who has volunteered his/her time and is enrolled to practice before the IRS.

The "Starting a Home-Based Business" workshop will occur Sept. 20 from 6 8 p.m. in the ULM Administration Building, Room 2-105, with a participation fee of $10.

Starting a business at home can lead to a successful start up venture. There are several issues that entrepreneurs should consider before opening a home-based business. Topics may include: types of businesses, legality, developing an image, business attitude, time management, family issues, advantages and disadvantages, the home business site, and planning for a home based business.

These opportunities are part of the LSBDC¹s continuing education program, as it provides quality, no-fee, confidential, one-on-one counseling services to potential and existing business owners; provides no-fee management and technical assistance services by appointment; conducts workshops and seminars to help small business people become better managers and to keep them informed about current events and changing trends in today¹s business
world; and maintains a resource library which includes statistical data, census figures, SBA publications, and a variety of other information.

Preregistration is encouraged. For more information, contact the LSBDC at ULM at (318) 342-1224, or go online at:
