Agriculture department to co-sponsor legislative awards luncheon Jan. 19

The ULM agriculture department, along with the North Louisiana Agri-Business Council, will sponsor the annual legislative awards luncheon Friday, Jan. 19 at 11:45 a.m. at the Monroe Civic Center.

ULM President Jim Cofer will introduce local and state legislators, including Bob Odom, the state commissioner of agriculture. An estimated 175 people are expected at the invitation-only luncheon, the official lead-in to Northeast Louisiana’s annual Ag Expo.

According to its Web site, the Ag Expo’s purpose is “to promote the agri-business industry and educate the region on the economical impact agriculture provides.” More than 150 vendors will provide free recipes and food samples concerning Louisiana grown commodities.

In addition to other regional agricultural education programs, the council uses proceeds to support ULM’s department of agriculture.

The Ag Expo will occur at the Monroe Civic Center Friday, Jan. 19 from 2 – 8 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 20 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

The cost is $5, although children six and under are admitted free. For more information, go to: www.agexpo.org/info.html
