Cofer congratulates Moffett on UL System presidency

ULM President James Cofer congratulated Micheal R. Moffett on his appointment as the new University of Louisiana System president.

“I offer my sincere congratulations and my support to Dr. Moffett as he assumes the great responsibility of the UL System presidency. I have known him for more than six years, and I am confident in his abilities to successfully lead the UL System. I fully support the Board's decision to name him our new System President. ULM will continue to collaborate with the UL System Office, working together for the benefit of higher education in Louisiana.”

Significant progress has transpired at ULM under Cofer's leadership, and he intends to remain focused on that success. ULM will unveil the university's rigorous strategic plan, created by faculty and staff, in July.

"We will continue to build upon our momentum. We will continue to focus on the strength of our intellectual infrastructure: our scholars rank among the nation's best, our innovative course redesign and pedagogy result in student success, and our programs gain national recognition," he said.

Citing his support of new academic programs, faculty member and Health Studies Department Head Jessica Dolecheck called Cofer a "visionary." She is pleased that he will continue to lead ULM.

"Dr. Cofer is a progressive leader of this institution, and we're so appreciative that we'll continue to benefit from his leadership and overall vision for the university. He has been supportive of so many new academic initiatives, including the Bachelor of Health Science in Health Studies. He's always looking to the future and incorporating cutting-edge programs that not only benefit faculty, but students as well."

Cofer has made many contributions to ULM, said Ruth Smith, Professor and Department Head of Foreign Languages.

"Dr. Cofer will continue to work with the ULM family to confront the challenges facing higher education today in an effort to ensure that our students always receive the opportunity for a good education."
