Putnam crowned Miss Shreveport; will compete for Miss Louisiana

Miss University of Louisiana Monroe 2007 Katherine Putnam won another victory Saturday, Oct. 11, at the Miss Shreveport Scholarship Pageant. She will now compete in the Miss Louisiana Pageant in Monroe in June 2009, date pending.

In addition to winning the overall Miss Shreveport title, Putnam scored top victory in the talent and evening gown competitions. She tied for first place in the swimsuit category.

Putnam is a 21-year-old ULM junior piano performance major from Monroe. Her platform concerns “The Miracle of Music.” She is the daughter of Byron and Heather Putnam.

Putnam said she was thrilled to win the Miss Shreveport title, viewing the area as her second home. “For the past four months I worked extremely hard to prepare for the competition, and the blood, sweat and tears definitely paid off! I am blessed to have the support from my family and loved ones, as well as the support from my hometown and the University of Louisiana Monroe. I look forward to representing my family, friends, my university, and the city of Shreveport in the Miss Louisiana Pageant in June.”

Erica Durr, Miss ULM 2008, also placed in the Miss Shreveport Scholarship Pageant, earning a fourth runner-up position. Her platform was “The Children of Domestic Violence,” and her talent was an operatic vocal performance.
