College of Pharmacy hosts Low-Sugar Showcase Feb. 28

The ULM College of Pharmacy Louisiana Student Pharmacy Alliance (LSPA) strives to educate northeast Louisiana about Type II Diabetes. Later this month, the students will host a Low-Sugar Showcase to teach the public that the disease can be avoided or at least properly maintained with a healthy diet.

The showcase will take place at the Monroe Civic Center on Saturday, Feb. 28, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will feature area Twin-City restaurants displaying and sampling diabetic-friendly food options. Local pharmacists, dieticians, and other health care providers will also be available to answer questions about medication use and inform the community about available diabetic resources.

All guests will be charged a $5 admission fee or be admitted free of charge after participating in a diabetes screening.

Sponsors for the event include Louisiana Pharmacist Assocaition, Opus Broadcasting, the City of Monroe, Roche Diagnostic- Maker of Accu-Chek®, Medical Pharmacy, Burkett Cardiovascular Associates, Luffy’s Medical Supply, American Stat-Care Centers,Inc., Belle Fleur at the Point, and others.
