Solo photographic art exhibition featuring local artist to be held at ULM’s Bry Gallery Sept. 14 - Oct. 8

“Subtle Hysteria and New Work," a solo exhibition of photographs presented by local artist Bess Bieluczyk, is on display from Sept. 14 – Oct. 8, in Bry Gallery on the campus of the University of Louisiana at Monroe.

The exhibit is free and open to the public. Gallery hours are from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and from 8 a.m. to noon on Fridays.

Bieluczyk was born in the Connecticut suburbs and received a bachelor’s degree from Sarah Lawrence College. She resides in Ruston and is a master’s of fine arts candidate at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia.

Her work in photography is currently focused on women, craft and domestic life.

“I see these photographs as the evidence or aftermath of the, at times, violent outbursts of an unhappy woman," she recently stated.

Often void of a direct portrayal of women, Bieluczyk alludes to them through the scene or setting, giving the viewer the sense they are the experiencing a moment in time as that woman, looking through her eyes.

The visual tension created by beautifully used and mundane objects against the rather confined and restricted space of domestic living areas imparts to the viewer a sense of the mental tension experienced in domestic scenes and situations.

A gallery talk will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, followed by a closing reception from 5 to 7 p.m., Oct. 8.

Funding for exhibitions presented by the Division of Art is provided in part by the ULM Campus Activities Board, and supported by the ULM Division of Art Faculty.

Tax-exempt donations to support future exhibitions can be made to the ULM Foundation Visual Arts fund at
