Putnam samples Miss America Pageant for public at ULM Jan. 9

The Miss Louisiana Organization and University of Louisiana at Monroe is hosting a Style Show and Send Off featuring Miss Louisiana 2009 Katherine Putnam at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, in Biedenharn Recital Hall on the ULM campus.

Putnam, a senior music performance major at ULM, said she is looking forward to giving her family, friends and fans a preview of her wardrobe prior to competing for the Miss America title at the end of the month.

“The past six months as Miss Louisiana have flown by and I've experienced growth in every aspect of my life – physically, emotionally, and spiritually,” she said. “I feel as though my entire life has prepared me for this moment, and I'm excited about this new chapter in my life chapter holds.”

Putnam will model about 10 different outfits for Saturday’s event at ULM, according to Darris Waren, vice president of the Miss Louisiana Organization. Among the attire she plans to model are her departure outfit, evening gown, and interview ensemble, swimsuit and talent gown for the Miss America competition. Putnam will also don additional outfits she will wear for different events in and around Las Vegas during the week of the 2010 Miss America Pageant.

Saturday’s event at ULM also features Putnam’s piano performance of The Hallelujah Chorus, which she will perform during the talent portion of the 2010 Miss America Pageant.

The pageant returns to Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas this year for a week of preliminary competitions, culminating in the live telecast at the end of January. The final competition airs Jan. 30 at 7 p.m., Central Standard Time, on the TLC Channel.

“This exciting event at Biedenharn Hall is a good opportunity for people to wish Katherine well as she prepares to leave for Las Vegas on Thursday, Jan. 20,” said Waren.
