National organization recognizes ULM graduate with Outstanding Educator distinction

The Association of Collegiate Marketing Educators has named a University of Louisiana at Monroe alum its 2011 Outstanding Educator award winner.

Dr. Ashish Chandra is currently serving as professor and chair of the healthcare administration program at the University of Houston-Clear Lake in Houston, located at Texas Medical Center, one of the world's largest.

He is a graduate of both the ULM College of Business Administration and the College of Pharmacy, specializing in Healthcare Marketing, Management of Medical Technology, Health Policy, Pharmaceutical Marketing and Management and Health Ethics.

"This is such an honor," said Chandra. "I really appreciate everyone's support and encouragement throughout my career that made this distinction a possibility, especially my professors, peers, and mentors at ULM and at Banaras Hindu University. I am humbled and delighted that I was able to make my family, professors, students, and colleagues proud of my achievements."

"This is outstanding recognition for one of our graduates and speaks to the quality of students enrolled in our pharmacy administration program," said Interim Dean Dr. Benny L. Blaylock. "All of us congratulate Dr. Chandra on this achievement."

"As a graduate of the College of Business Administration, we are proud to call him one of our own and, having worked with him for a number of years in a professional service capacity, I can only express admiration at his leadership and a deep appreciation for his love of ULM. He has positively influenced the lives of so many people and is so deserving of this award."

Chandra earned his Master's of Business Administration from ULM in 1993 and a Ph.D. in pharmacy administration in 1996, also from ULM.

He earned an Master's of Management Studies from Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi, India, in 1989.

He joined the faculty at University of Houston-Clear Lake in fall 2007, where he oversees one of the largest Commission on the Accreditation in Healthcare Management programs in the country.

Prior to coming to UHCL, Dr. Chandra was a faculty member in the Graduate School of Management at Marshall University, where he also served as the coordinator of the graduate Healthcare Administration Program.

Chandra was the recipient of a number of prestigious awards at Marshall University, including the Distinguished Artists and Scholars Award, the highest research award given at Marshall.

In addition, he has received numerous best paper awards at various conferences and is receiving the 2011 McGraw-Hill/Irwin Distinguished Paper Award for the Business and Health Administration Association at the MBAA International conference to be held in Chicago this March.

He recently co-chaired the successful Sixth International Conference on Healthcare Systems in Gaziantep, Turkey. He will serve as Program Chair of the Seventh International Conference on Healthcare Systems in Houston in Fall 2012.

He is the author of more than 200 professional publications including over 50 publications in journals and books and serves as executive editor of the journal Hospital Topics, the oldest journal in the healthcare administration field.

In addition, he is an editorial board member of Health Marketing Quarterly, Health Care Manager, and the International Journal of Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Marketing.
