ULM grad goes to Hollywood

Monroe native and University of Louisiana at Monroe alum Robert Kenneth Wright, (B.A. ’12) recently ventured to Los Angeles, Calif. to try and break into the music business.

What he got was far more than he bargained for. Since his arrival in California, Wright has appeared in over 12 television shows.

“I had plans to come to L.A. to be a singer and a show entertainer,” said Wright.

“The acting career really came about unexpectedly. It has been a great adventure being on set and seeing the magic of television unfold before my eyes.”

Wright departed Monroe on Dec. 10, 2012, and headed to Los Angeles two days after ULM’s Fall Commencement.

Since his arrival, he has filmed in various television shows as a background actor.

He has worked on such shows as: “Ben and Kate,” “Rizzoli and Isles,” “Scandal,” “Revenge,” “Body of Proof,” “Criminal Minds,” “The Newsroom,” “The Mindy Project,” “Castle,” “House of Lies,” “Franklin and Bash,” “The Mentalist,” and a taping of “The Ricki Lake Show.”

Most recently, Wright appeared in the ABC drama “Scandal,” in the episode titled “Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot,” which aired on Thursday, Feb. 14.

Wright starred as a friend of the family during a christening scene of the episode.

Wright intends to put his energies into a full time acting career.

He reached the first step in becoming a member of the Screen Actors Guild and is continuing to work to achieve his goals.

“I was very motivated by the commencement address at graduation by State Representative Katrina R. Jackson,” continued Wright.

“She challenged my class to dance with time. That's what I have done since that day and I have enjoyed the journey.”
