Dr. Ruth Smith is a Professor of Modern Languages and Director, School of Humanities; and Program Coordinator of World Languages at the University of Louisiana Monroe.
Smith has been a member of the ULM faculty since 1975 when she arrived to teach Spanish.
Since that time, she has received a number of honors for her teaching and was an integral part in founding Sigma Delta Pi, the honor society for Spanish, helping to design the ULM Honors Program, and serving at the state level in several positions on the Louisiana Foreign Teachers Association Board, including LFTA president.
She served as chair of the Department of World Languages from 1995 until 2012 and has been the Director of the School of Humanities since 2013.
She earned a Bachelor of Arts from Central State University, a Masters of Art and a Ph.D. from the University of Oklahoma.
