Dr. Gary Stringer
Gary Stringer is a distinguished educator and researcher with many years of
practical industry experience to complement his academic endeavors.
Geology was the focus of his early studies, to which he augmented with a M.S.
in Geology/ Paleontology and an Ed.S. in Curriculum and Instruction. He later
earned a Ph.D. in Geology Science Education.
As a geologist, he worked in the petroleum industry both as an employee and
as a consultant. As an educator, he has taught science at the high school and
junior high school levels in both conventional and gifted/ talented settings.
He is currently a Professor of Geology in the Department of Geosciences at The
University of Louisiana at Monroe.
His major research interests are the paleontological and archeological study
of teleost otoliths and the study of earth science curriculum. His research
over the past decade has garnered support from 29 grants. He has written 52
published articles and abstracts and two multimedia CD-ROM's.
Dr. Stringer has received many professional honors, including selection for
"Identification of Innovative and Effective Teachers in Mathematics, Science,
and Engineering" by the Louisiana Board of Regents, Louisiana State Teacher
of the Year, and the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science and Mathematics
Teaching from the National Science Foundation. He is a member of several honor
societies, including Phi Kappa Phi and Sigma Gamma Epsilon, and many professional
organizations, including the Society of Vertebrate Paleontology, the American
Association of Petroleum Geologists, the Association of Southeastern Biologists,
and the National Earth Science Teachers Association.
