Funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation, DAMSALS2 is a three-year ITEST Project to use information technology to support science instruction at the 7th - 12th grade level. It serves the rural school systems of the Mississippi River Delta in northeast Louisiana.
The project builds on the integrated science approach of the DAMSALS LaSIP Project to deliver agriculture-related concepts identified in the Louisiana science curriculum through technology-rich activities.
Participants will learn geospatial field techniques using GPS devices and bring the information into a GIS. They will use graphing calculators with CBLs to collect data, and computers to access and analyze on-line data and present findings. On-site visits, compressed video meetings, and Blackboard discussions will support implementation during the academic year.
