Doctor of Philosophy in Marriage and Family Therapy

Online Non-Clinical Program (Concentration in Systemic Studies)

Program Requirements  Program Application Deadline

Minimum graduate GPA of 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale) 

AND

Master's degree from a college or university accredited and recognized at the institutional level by the US Department of Education (USDOE).


*This program has additional requirements for admission for consideration by the program's admission committee.


Fall Admission Only

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the program accredited?
This program is nonclinical in emphasis and this course of study does not prepare graduates to be eligible for the Marriage and Family Therapist license.  

What is the average length of the program?
The program can be completed in three years. Most graduates take between three to five years to complete the program.

Can I apply if I don't have a background in Marriage and Family Therapy?
Applicants with a Masters degree in a licensable mental health clinical discipline are preferred, however, this is not a requirement. Those applicants without such a background will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

Can I attend as a part-time student?
The program is a cohort model and all students are full-time.

Can I get a graduate assistantship?
Graduate assistantships are not offered for the online program.

When will I be notified regarding an admissions decision?
If you have been selected for an online interview, you will be notified by mid-March. If you are accepted to the program, you will receive notification in writing by the first week in April.
