Caitlin Bertrand, PharmD

Caitlin Bertrand, PharmD, is a 2014 alumna of the College of Pharmacy. She attended high school at Notre Dame High School in Crowley, LA, and completed the pre-pharmacy curriculum at UL-Lafayette before coming to Monroe to attend pharmacy school. Upon receiving her PharmD, Caitlin completed a community pharmacy residency with South Carolina College of Pharmacy.

After working at Walgreens briefly, Caitlin was hired by Genoa Healthcare to open a Lafayette location in 2017. In 2021, they opened a second pharmacy in Crowley. This is the first and only telepharmacy/remote dispensing site in the state! The pharmacies are located inside outpatient mental health clinics.

When asked about her passion in the field of pharmacy, Caitlin said that working with mental health patients has definitely become her passion. Saying, “I had no idea when I completed Dr. Lance Nickelson’s Psych rotation that I would eventually have a career in that field. I love working with these patients and it is so rewarding.”

Catilin’s advice for students considering a career in pharmacy is to know there is so much more to pharmacy than just standing behind the pharmacy counter. She encourages students to explore all the many options and fields of pharmacy available to find something you love.

On why she chose ULM, Caitlin said she knew several pharmacists that graduated from ULM and upon visiting the college before applying everyone seemed so kind and welcoming. “My four years at ULM brought the best memories and life-long friendships,” said Caitlin.

Caitlin also serves as a preceptor for 4^th year ULM pharmacy students, and she says she loves it! We know her students are learning a lot from her, and we thank her for giving her time to help teach them.

Pharmacy is one of her passions, but in her spare time Caitlin also enjoys being with family and friends and traveling.
