The University of Louisiana at Monroe first developed a master's degree program in marriage and family therapy in 1983 and joined the ranks of accredited masters degree programs in marriage and family therapy in 1987. The ULM program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE).
In July of 1995, the Louisiana Board of Regents approved the development of a doctoral
program in marriage and family therapy which has been implemented since the Fall of
1996.
The doctoral program, which was fully accredited by COAMFTE in 2007, has graduated
more than 40 Ph.D.’s in MFT.
