Scholarships and Auditions
Talent grants are awarded for participation in ULM instrumental and vocal ensembles.
Regardless of their intended major, students must audition in order to be considered
for a talent grant. Talent grant awards are renewable on a yearly basis.
Students whose permanent residence is outside of Louisiana may be awarded an out-of-state
tuition waiver. For more information on financial aid and university scholarships, visit the ULM Office of Financial Aid and ULM Scholarship Office.
The audition process for prospective voice majors is listed below. Should you have
any additional questions or concerns, don't hesitate to contact us. Auditions periodically
occur off-campus in local schools if that would be more feasible for you. Please contact
us if that is a better option for you or your prospective students.
Before being accepted as a music major, a student must successfully complete an entrance
audition (personal or solo performance recording) and a theory placement examination.
For further information, please contact us via phone at (318) 342-3811 or email at
long@ulm.edu
If you would like more specific information about any aspect of your audition, please
feel free to contact any of the individual instructors.
Due to health concerns related to COVID-19, ULM's voice auditions for entrance in
Fall 2022 will be performed two ways:
1) In person, complying with all CDC recommended COVID-19 guidelines.
2) Via video recording with a required Zoom interview by the ULM Voice Area Faculty.
It is suggested that all individuals who are unvaccinated for COVID-19 submit a video
recorded audition. If submitting a video recorded audition, please carefully follow
Video Submission Requirements listed below. All audition requirements remain the same
as listed below.
Please fill out an audition request form and email it to vangelisti@ulm.edu. You'll be contacted and informed of all audition details once your audition request
form is received.
ULM Voice Day: April 1st, 2022 1pm-7pm
ULM Voice Area Audition Video Submission Deadlines and Zoom Interview Dates
The audition will be acoustic with no added audio effects (no mics or post production
editing).
The auditioning student will dress professionally as if auditioning in person.
If the student is using a recorded accompaniment, it should be amplified through a
Bluetooth speaker so it is audible to both the student and the listener.
Recorded accompaniments from AppCompanist are allowed.
ULM piano faculty can provide help with recording accompaniments if necessary.
If the auditioning student chooses to use an accompanist for their audition video,
please follow current COVID-19 CDC guidelines in your recording process.
The audition video is a performance, so the student should be standing against a neutral
backdrop and should be visible at least from the knees up.
All audition videos must be uploaded to YouTube with an unlistedprivacy setting, and YouTube links to all videos will be sent to Dr. Vangelisti at
vangelisti@ulm.edu in order for submission to be complete.
Before being accepted as a music or music education major, a student must successfully
complete an entrance audition and a theory placement examination. The applicant will
