Vocal Auditions

Voice Audition Requirements

The applicant will audition for the voice faculty and a representative of other areas of study as appropriate. All vocal musicians wishing to pursue a music degree at ULM are required to audition for admission. For more information about the audition process, please refer to the scholarships tab.

All ULM students are welcome to participate in the ULM Choral Ensembles. Talent Grants can be awarded to any ULM student regardless of their major.

MAJOR/MINOR AUDITIONS: Ensemble auditions will happen in conjunction with scheduled Major/Minor auditions. Auditions are also available by appointment. Please consult the VAPA audition page for audition guidelines. Please contact Dr. Nancy Carey, Voice Area Coordinator, for more information at carey@ulm.edu.

NON-MAJOR AUDITIONS: For non-majors who would like to audition for the ULM Concert Choir or Chamber Singers and be considered for a Talent Grant, auditions will take place by appointment. Choral auditions include a vocal range check, pitch memory exercises, and melodic sight-reading.

Students are welcome to register for Bayou la Belle (Soprano/Alto Ensemble), Warhawk Singers (Tenor/Bass Ensemble), or University Chorale (SATB Ensemble) without audition- these ensembles are open to all singers, regardless of their experience level. Students participating in these ensembles are eligible for Talent Grants but would need to schedule an audition.

Please contact Dr. Carlton Kilpatrick, Director of Choral Activities, for more information at ckilpatrick@ulm.edu.
